Craftsmanship stands as an enduring symbol of human ingenuity, weaving its rich tapestry through the annals of time, fortifying its virtues, and refining its vulnerabilities across diverse landscapes and eras. It epitomizes a fundamental cultural thread, intertwining the identity of nations and regions. Consequently, the exploration and preservation of this cultural treasure, in any manifestation and era, are not only beneficial but imperative.

The upcoming 8th Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival in Iran stands as a testament to our commitment to this cause. This event is meticulously designed to lay the foundation for the quantitative growth and qualitative evolution of Iranian handicrafts. The artworks showcased resonate with the artistic heritage of the Middle East, fostering a cultural symbiosis that transcends borders and acts as a bridge of communication.

Simultaneously, I am thrilled to announce on this occasion the World Crafts Council AISBL (WCC-International) 60th Anniversary "Diamond Jubilee" and 20th General Assembly in 2024, with the theme “Craft, Creativity & Compassion". This global event commemorates six decades of promoting and preserving craft traditions worldwide. The WCC-International Diamond Jubilee prompts reflection on our accomplishments and envisions the future of crafts, while the General Assembly unites artisans, enthusiasts, scholars, and industry professionals, fostering cultural exchange and sustainable development.

I extend a warm welcome to all participants, artisans, and patrons, inviting you to join us in this celebration of creativity, tradition, and the enduring legacy of handicrafts. Together, let us weave a narrative that echoes through the ages, preserving and enriching the cultural mosaic that defines us as a global community.

Warm regards,

Sa’ad al-Qaddumi
President of WCC AISBL (International), 2022-2024

Thank you for your email and the information on the Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival to be held in Tehran next month.

In view of my extensive travel in Iran during the days of my Presidency of WCC International and after, I have a good idea about the importance given to traditional handicrafts throughout Iran and the enthusiastic involvement of people of all regions of Iran in various crafts, through generations.

Arts Festivals such as this go a step further in not only keeping that tradition alive, but also in driving creativity to higher levels. In addition, this also connects the craftspeople within and outside the country to forge mutually beneficial, cross-cultural partnerships that help to diversify and find new applications and markets in the ever-widening international arena.

I heartily congratulate the organizers for their sustained commitment to the cause of crafts and wish the festival a grand success.

With best wishes,

Usha Krishna
