Terme is one of the exquisite products of Yazd, which has a very long history. Some believe that Terme was woven in Kashmir, but the main origin of Terme was Yazd.
According to the news staff of the 7th Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival (Sarv-e Simin-e 7), on Saturday February 19, the fourth day of the festival, the movie “Terme” directed by Shahram Derakhshan was screened in Sarv-e Simin cinema.
In this film, it is stated that Terme is one of the exquisite products of Yazd city, which has a very long history. Some believe that Terme was woven in Kashmir, but the main origin of Terme was Yazd. According to the latest historical documents and records, Terme can be attributed to the Sasanian period. From the Seljuk period, Terme gained a high position.
From the Safavid period, Terme was produced in semi mass amount, and its weave in the elite class was very different from that of ordinary people, and to the same amount the production was increased. Some say that Indians were talented in the field of shawl production and they also flourished in the production of Terme.
35 years ago, 100% of handwoven Terme production was replaced by machine woven Terme, but more importance should be paid to handwoven production. The history of Terme should be preserved and the originality of Terme should be considered in the field of patterns and motifs. Terme has a motif called “Boteh” which is a cypress bent head to the flower.
The 7th edition of Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival (Sarv-e Simin-e 7), is being held from 15-23 February at National Museum of Iran.
