According to the news staff of the 7th Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival (Sarv-e Simin-e 7), Morteza Agha Ghasemi; the honorary chairman of the eighth day of the festival said: I am 65 years old and my profession is reverse glass painting. The art of reverse glass painting has a history of 500 to 600 years old.
He added: tableaux of reverse glass painting came to Iran from Italy by ship. The first Iranian who worked in this field of art was Mirza Bagher Kashi Kar. We have nearly two thousand reverse glass paintings in Iran from Shiraz, Tabriz and Rasht.
Agha Ghasemi continued: I would like this art to be always alive and dynamic. Art is my love and I fantasize in reverse glass painting and I have never copied in this art field. I have fantasized paintings related to the stories of Yusuf and Zuleikha, Gisou and Godarz, and Suleiman and Hod Hod, and I have executed them on reverse glass painting, and Europeans pay attention to my tableaux.
This artist said: I have come to the festival today to tell the youth to follow this art. Stained glass painting art came to Iran in 1969, but its history is 600 years old.
He said: Deer has always been in Farshchian’s miniatures and I have always depicted the sun in my artworks, because the sun is the embodiment of life. I wish that the youth will keep this legacy alive and not destroy it.
The 7th edition of Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival (Sarv-e Simin-e 7), is being held from 15-23 February at National Museum of Iran.
