Mahdi Mohammadi stated: Our country has a special position in the world due to its wide diversity in the field of handicrafts.

According to the news staff of the 7th Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival (Sarv-e Simin-e 7), Mahdi Mohammadi, referring to the plans and goals of the university committee, said: In line with the decisions of the policy-making council and with the coordination of the central secretariat, the necessary measures has been taken to use the capacity of students and professors in this festival, and for this purpose, a number of painting students will portray artisans working in handicrafts fields on the closing day.

The chairman of the university committee of the 7th Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival added: A number of other students were introduced to the executive committee of the festival to be present in this space. Also, measures have been taken regarding the cooperation and use of the capacity of handicraft students in the side events.

Referring to the position of Iranian traditional arts and handicrafts in the world, he said: Iran is one of the most important countries in the world in the field of handicrafts and traditional arts. In a way that it has placed our country at the top of the countries that have outstanding handicrafts.

Mohammadi declared: Our country has a special position in the world’s handicrafts due to its wide variety of handicrafts fields. Also, with Iran’s historical past and very long background in the field of culture, we have been able to take a high place in the world. This path has been made possible with the help of creativity and extensive skill of the artisans/craftspeople of this field so that we can be known as one of the three poles of traditional arts and handicrafts in the world.

Regarding the effect of the Sarv-e Simin Festival in introducing handicrafts and traditional arts in the region and the world, he added: One of the important advantages of the 7th Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival is that it is held at the international level, which is recommended and emphasized by the Minister of Cultural Heritage Tourism and handicrafts. Of course, the extensive efforts in different sections of the festival and the appropriate measures used, will lead to the more introduction of Iranian handicrafts in the world. Until now, despite the diversity, vastness and characteristics of Iranian handicrafts and traditional arts, the necessary measures have not been taken to introduce it at the global level. This festival can be the first step in this field. Of course, this alone is not enough, but it can be a good start for our wider presence at the global level.

The chairman of the university committee of the 7th Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival also stated: Despite the fact that we do not have any problems in the production process in the field of handicrafts, unfortunately, due to the lack of proper advertising, we could not get the position that Iran’s handicrafts deserve. We must consider international advertising and introduction of Iranian handicrafts with professional facilities and especially the capacities of virtual space. As the first step, this festival is a right and vital step that I hope will help us to get the position we deserve. This process should be done continuously and in a more complete way to reach the worthy position in handicrafts in the world.

The 7th edition of Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival (Sarv-e Simin-e 7), is being held on 15-23 February at National Museum of Iran.
